The film "Streets of Calabar" will soon be out !

If you were one of those lucky enough to have been at the Calabar Carnival in December 2009, you probably noticed some people cordoning off corner after corner and doing some recording. Given the number of white persons involved, you are not likely to have failed to notice.

The good news is that they say they are almost ready to make the finished work public..

The synopsis as officially rendered is given below. I hope it lives up to its billing, though I am almost sure it will, given the calibre of artistes and crew involved and the painstaking approach to work that I observed.

Official Synopsis: The film’s main character is Chuks Oti, a 419 scammer and illegal immigrant who is deported back to his home country Nigeria from London.

Once home, Chuks bribes his way out of a possible jail term in Lagos and ends up in the holiday resort city, Calabar, the “Caribbean of West Africa”, living with his loyal white girlfriend Margaret, who insisted on travelling with him to Nigeria.

Struggling against the demons of his past and torn by guilt over his failure to live up to his late father’s expectations, Chuks tries to walk a straight path, but soon discovers that life as a deportee consists of menial jobs and constant police harassment.

When he runs into his old advance fee fraud mate, Mike, a mixed race pleasure seeker who is full of wild energy and loves to take risks, Chuks soon finds himself back in the criminal life.

This time it is presided over by the mysterious De Don, the duplicitous, cross-dressing leader of a gang of underground arms dealers, who’s hatched an evil plan to takeover the peaceful streets of Calabar.

Enveloped in a web of scams, danger and murder, tension mounts as Chuks and Mike are forced to become part of a dangerous and covert police mission to stop De Don. But they soon find themselves the targets, as the evil De Don suspects a double cross.

Pursed across the breathtaking scenery of Cross River State by De Don and his guards as well as a raging group of Cameroonian “yardies”, time ticks down to an explosive climax, as Chuks concocts an elaborate plan that’ll not only vanquish the most vicious, deadly mobster that ever stalked the streets of Calabar but make Chuks and Mike extremely rich.
